Germany : PhD student position:Cell wall integrity signaling in Aspergillus fumigatus

Employer: University of Munich
Study Subject: Cell wall integrity signaling in Aspergillus fumigatus
Level: PhD
Scholarship Description: One DFG-funded PhD student position (3 years) is available at the Max von Pettenkofer-Institute for Hygiene and Medical Microbiology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, Germany.

We welcome applications for a PhD student position working on the fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus, a mold that causes air-born life-threatening diseases in immunocompromised patients. In contrast to animals (e.g., humans), fungi like A. fumigatus are surrounded by a tough layer consisting of chitin, mannan and glucan which is called the fungal cell wall. This cell wall protects fungi from physical stress and is essential for their resistance to the mammalian immune system and antifungal drugs. We are specifically interested in characterizing signal transduction pathways and molecular mechanisms that regulate the shape and biogenesis of the cell wall.
