Fellowship Description: The Polymers and Composites competence area of CSIR Materials Science and Manufacturing Operating Unit has a vacancy for Senior Researcher: Fibre Reinforced Composites in the Nonwovens and Composites Research Group based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The research group is equipped with composites processing technologies, such as compression moulding; vacuum-assisted resin transfer moulding; compounding; extrusion; pelletising and injection moulding; polymer and composites characterisation facilities; dual cone calorimeter; vertical and horizontal fire testing; and scanning electron microscope besides natural fibre extraction and woven/nonwoven perform making facilities. The incumbent will be expected to develop the research portfolio in his/her research area independently by externally-funded research and supporting the research group by skill transfer, mentoring and promoting human capital development.
Key responsibilities:
The position will require the incumbent to conduct basic and applied research in the development of natural fibre-based composites and bio-composites for various industrial applications and the characterisation of composites structure and properties.

Qualifications, skills and experience:
The applicant should have earned a doctoral degree in fibre reinforced composites-related research with a strong background in applied chemistry and polymer science with a minimum of three years of post-doctoral experience in research environment. The candidate should be a self-starter with demonstrated abilities by good peer-reviewed publications. A strong background in polymer science and technology is essential. The candidate must be familiar with composite processing and knowledge of mechanical, thermal and microscopic characterisation techniques like DSC, DMA, TGA, and SEM is desirable.
