Postdoctoral Fellowship/Research Fellowship in Chalcogenide Glasses and Films for Infra-Red Science and Telecommunications, Australia

Employer: Australian National University
Study Subject: Science
Level: Postdoctoral
Fellowship Description: The appointee will join a team within the Laser Physics Centre which develop waveguide devices from chalcogenide glasses for applications in mid-infrared science and telecommunications. The appointee will contribute to the science of chalcogenide or chalcohalide glasses and films with the goal of identifying glasses with the best physical properties for the target applications.
The appointee will be expected to contribute one or more of the following research topics:
* Approaches to the production of chalcogenide films including co-thermal evaporation;
* The identification and production of films with low optical losses in the infrared
* Rare-earth doped chalcogenide or chalcohalide films with optimised luminescence properties
* Improved approaches to waveguide fabrication using hot embossing, dry etching, etc;
* Improved understanding of factors that determine the stability of chalcogenide glasses for optical applications
Fellowship Application Deadline: 10 January 2011
